Dear Keni,
My dad is a retired Marine Corp sniper. He did two tours in Vietnam and was awarded multiple medals including a purple heart. My little brother followed in his footsteps and is currently deployed in Afghanistan. He's already seen multiple deployments and heavy fighting in Fallujah, Najaf and Baghdad. Your story transcends a particular day, individual people or time and place. It's an age old story about people standing together and becoming more than they could ever be alone. The book is the culmination of your excellent story telling, personal sacrifice and your own self awareness.
Your book really reminded me of my personal role and duty. I have 250 people that work with me in our investigative department, most of whom you have met. I've always taken my responsibility seriously, knowing that they rely on me to make decisions that affect their career, their livelihood, the quality of life, their families and spirit. I am truly blessed in that they are an exceptional group of people who could leave, find other jobs, make more money etc. At the end of the day they don't stay for the money. I strive every day to make certain their trust in me continues to be earned. Reading your book really brought that into focus and reminded me of that greater role. Of standing together.
As always Keni, I thank you for sharing the story of Task Force Ranger, but even more so, your own personal struggles. I'm happy to help spread the word. I only wish my sphere of influence was greater. I'll begin distributing the information from Luke this week. I'll explore if there is any opportunity to bring a large group together at once. If there is anything bigger in scope that you or your team comes up with, I'm honored to help.
God bless and good luck!
Sean Zavala
